Ki, /kē/, is a Japanese term used to denote the idea of Spirit, Mind, Constructive Life Force, Energy and Intention. In human beings Ki emerges from Self-Awareness.
Being aware is being in a state of gentle search of balance and health. For psychologists Shelley Duval and Robert Wicklund, Self-Awareness is the ability to focus on yourself and on how your actions, thoughts, or emotions do or don't align with your internal standards. If you're highly self-aware, you can objectively evaluate yourself, manage your emotions, align your behaviour with your values, and understand correctly how others perceive you.
In your journey to improve your health you may have noticed that not every healthy food works for you. Maybe your new healthy diet is making your tummy grow, making you constipated, or having you running to the privy. Or perhaps a trendy healthy food, or a nutritional supplement, is giving you brain fog or making you feel bloated or gassy, or even giving you colitis.
Through any of the above your body is sending you the physiological sign that those foods or eating habits are causing damage to your system. If you fail to notice these physiological signs, physical and mental symptoms of distress, or disease, sooner or later will appear.
Things become more complicated when you have lost touch with your body to the extent that you can no longer perceive the warning signals it is sending you. A not-so-uncommon situation. Many people that have lived with chronic digestive troubles have lost the capability to sense warning signals like pain, bloating or brain fog, and they are confused about what foods are healthy for them –or agree with their metabolism– and which ones don't.
